Participation of Laboratory Members in a Symposium on the Environment and the Future of Chios
The Laboratory of Sustainable and Resilient Regional and Tourism Development (SuReLab) participated in the one-day conference titled “Chios After the Fire: The Environment & the Future of the Island”, held at the Omireio Cultural Centre of Chios, organized by the 2nd General Lyceum of Chios within the framework of the “European Parliament Ambassador Schools” programme.
The conference brought together representatives of local government, the scientific community, and civil society organisations, with the aim of highlighting the challenges and prospects for environmental restoration and sustainable development of the island in the aftermath of the recent wildfires.
Among the speakers was the Director of SuReLab, Maria Ntoumi, who presented, in collaboration with doctoral candidate Myrsinia Koutsouradi, issues related to sustainable and resilient regional and tourism development, emphasizing the importance of integrated approaches for the protection and promotion of Chios’ natural and cultural heritage. Also participating was doctoral candidate Argyro Koutsouradi, who addressed topics concerning small-scale agriculture and its contribution to the sustainable tourism development of the region.
SuReLab’s participation in such initiatives reinforces the connection between research and local society, and actively contributes to the public dialogue on addressing contemporary environmental challenges.
